Competitive
Skills
This group is your child’s introduction to
competitive swimming. The goal of this
group is to emphasize stroke technique and introduce competitive
swimming skills such as freestyle flip turns and shallow
dives. Swimmers will continue to
develop stroke skills through numerous drills and technique
work. Full stroke butterfly will be
introduced. Competitive Skills training
sessions are offered 3 days a week. For
maximum benefit swimmers will attend all training sessions. There is, however, no minimum or maximum
number of sessions that a child may attend. All are encouraged to participate in other sports
and activities. All children in this
group are capable of and encouraged to participate in all local
swim meets as well as selected overseas meets.

Advanced
Competitive Skills
From the
Competitive Skills group, a swimmer will move to the Advanced
Competitive Skills where he/she will learn the proper/legal
techniques of all four competitive strokes: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and
Freestyle. Stroke technique remains the
emphasis. They will be further
instructed on competitive procedures such as starts, turns, and the
rules and regulations involved in competitive swimming. The backstroke flip turn will be introduced. Competitive Skills training sessions are
offered 4 days a week. Again, there is
no minimum or maximum number of sessions that should be attended
and children are encouraged to participate in other sports and
activities. Children in this group are
all capable of and encouraged to participate in all local swim
meets, local half-mile sea swims, as well as selected overseas

Enthusiasm
Upon acquiring a solid skill base and reasonable
physical mastery of all four competitive strokes, each swimmer will
be invited to move to the Enthusiasm group. This group emphasizes stroke improvement through
drills and stroke work, but with some emphasis now turning to
interval training. Swimmers learn to
read times off the pace clock and how to follow a structured
workout. Swimmers will learn more
advanced competitive swimming techniques and continue to improve
upon the others. They will train
increased distances and establish a basic level of fitness. Workouts are offered 5 days a week. Attendance at all scheduled sessions is
strongly encouraged should swimmers wish to continue to advance
within the program. All swimmers in the
Enthusiasm group are strongly recommended to attend all local swim
meets, at least one appropriate-level overseas meet per year and
all local half-mile sea swims and the one-mile sea
swim.
