Swim Groups

The Lions Aquatic Centre offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the LAC Swim Programs to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

The Lions Aquatic Centre’s Competitive Program has a primary goal to teach swimmers to make a commitment to coming to training sessions, being here on time, taking instruction from their coach, and to teach them the value of hard work and its relationship to achievement and success.  The program aspires to do this in an atmosphere that is both positive and fun.

The program is designed around a long-term, gradual approach to the development of young swimmers.  Groups are structured with the following in mind:

o         Age

o         Ability to train

o         Competitive goals

o         Commitment level, and

o         Performance

It is important to understand that the concepts and skills developed in one group will be carried over and enhanced in the succeeding groups.

The program is divided into six separate groups; Competitive Skills, Advanced Competitive Skills, Enthusiasm, Discipline, Dedication and Commitment.  Swimmers are placed in these groups by the coaches after an assessment of their skill and fitness levels.  There is always an opportunity for swimmers to move up through the groups once the required criteria have been met.
